Many more Americans are becoming part of the phenomenon that requires specialized staff employed by global or major US companies with offices and production facilities spread across the US, to spend many days, weeks or even months working away from home.

As a result, companies are shunning traditional downtown locations and relocating offices and factories to specialist retail and trading areas close to major airports or roads. This not only makes it easier for their mobile employees to get to and from different workplaces, but also improves the company’s bottom-line as staff travel costs, hotel bills and high price downtown office space rentals are reduced.

From an employee’s point of view working away from home has its downside; long periods away from loved ones, feeling of isolation and the endless nights and drudgery of hotel living. Obviously, employers will be anxious to ensure that their workers are as happy as possible while away from home. So, in order to make them feel more comfortable and relaxed many businesses are opting to accommodate their workers in hotels that offer full facilities, such as kitchens, generous living areas and latest electrical appliances. By doing that, even though the employee is still away from their loved ones, at least they get all the luxuries of home.

One of the bigger metropolitan areas in the USA that is experiencing this phenomenon is Houston, Texas. With the massive circular Beltway surrounding the city, many blue-chip companies are choosing to relocate next to it, turning their back on the expense and inconvenience of a downtown location.

The need from those businesses to put key workers into economical, but fully equipped accommodation has led to boom time for the extended stay hotel in Houston. With many Houston employers such as IBM, Blue Cross Shield and Duke Energy opting to build large office complexes close to the Beltway it makes economic sense for those workers travelling many miles to stay in hotels such as this, rather than the expensive, upmarket downtown hotels that offer less in the way of facilities.

Extended stay hotels are also popular with sports spectators, especially baseball fans embarking on a road trip. Many are close to ballparks and other stadia, and in Houston for example, there are several found close to all the major stadia where most of the Houston franchises play their games including the Minute Maid Ballpark, Reliant Stadium and the Toyota Center.

Whether for business or pleasure it seems that extended stay hotels will be in demand for some time to come.

Tourism and commercial recreation is over an $800 billion industry in the United States. Globally, tourism accounts for approximately 12% of the Gross Domestic Product, employing 10% of the worldwide labor force. It is estimated that by the year 2020, more than half of all employed people in the world will be involved directly or indirectly with the tourism industry. In the United States, travel-related tourism is the first, second or third largest employer in 32 states.

Resort hotels and motels offer luxurious surroundings with a variety of recreational facilities, such as swimming pools, golf courses, tennis courts, game rooms, and health spas, as well as planned social activities and entertainment. Resorts typically are located in vacation destinations or near natural settings, such as mountains, the seashore, theme parks, or other attractions. As a result, the business of many resorts fluctuates with the season. Some resort hotels and motels provide additional convention and conference facilities to encourage customers to combine business with pleasure. During the off season, many of these establishments solicit conventions, sales meetings, and incentive tours to fill their otherwise empty rooms; some resorts even close for the off-season.

A hospitality management career is high-energy and social. You’ll meet interesting people and work in some of the most beautiful places on earth – anywhere there is a need for resort or hotel management.

The skills and knowledge developed in this field of study are leadership, marketing, qualitative skills, research and evaluation, programming (recreation, leisure and meetings), planning and policy, legal aspects, and communications.

Most hotel, motel, and resort desk clerks receive orientation and training on the job. Orientation may include an explanation of the job duties and information about the establishment, such as the arrangement of sleeping rooms, availability of additional services, such as a business or fitness center, and location of guest facilities, such as ice and vending machines, restaurants and other nearby retail stores. New employees learn job tasks through on-the-job training under the guidance of a supervisor or an experienced desk clerk. They often receive additional training on interpersonal or customer service skills and on how to use the computerized reservation, room assignment, and billing systems and equipment. Desk clerks typically continue to receive instruction on new procedures and on company policies after their initial training ends.

Hotel, motel, and resort desk clerks deal directly with the public, so a professional appearance and a pleasant personality are important. A clear speaking voice and fluency in English also are essential, because these employees talk directly with hotel guests and the public and frequently use the telephone or public-address systems. Good spelling and computer literacy are needed, because most of the work involves use of a computer. In addition, speaking a foreign language fluently is increasingly helpful, because of the growing international clientele of many properties.

Resort managers experience the pressures of coordinating a wide range of activities. At larger hotels, they also carry the burden of managing a large staff and finding a way to satisfy guest needs while maintaining positive attitudes and employee morale. Conventions and large groups of tourists may present unusual problems or require extended work hours.

The recreation department’s major in tourism management prepares students to work in such diverse sectors of the travel and tourism industry as tour operations, resort management, convention management, meeting planning, and commercial recreation management. It includes courses in management of park and recreation facilities, tourism, tourism systems planning, resource tourism, convention management, meeting planning, marketing of leisure services, and the legal aspects of recreation and tourism. The program requires both field experience and a professional internship.

Careers Specific to the Bachelor’s Degree are convention and visitors bureau management, convention services manager, special event coordinator, meeting/conference planner, tour operations management, on-site meeting manager, travel agent trainee, cruise hospitality, hotel management trainee, resort recreation management, tour coordinator, natural or cultural tour guide, and park manager.

With preparation in tourism management, individuals have skills related to management and leadership which would contribute to any type of position sought in the tourism industry. The tourism industry is within the top three industries of most countries in the world and provides numerous career opportunities at a variety of levels of service, production and management.

After finding employment, proving oneself capable and making contacts in the industry, a person finds that a wide variety of advanced career opportunities present themselves.

The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management requires a minimum of 120 units for graduation. This interdisciplinary program prepares students for careers in the hospitality industry and includes basic core courses and an area of concentration. The areas of concentration are Commercial Recreation and Resort Management from the College of Health and Human Services; Hotel Management from the College of Business; and Restaurant and Institutional Foodservice Management from the College of Health and Human Services. The core curriculum is housed in the Department of Hospitality Management, College of Business.

The Concentration in Commercial Recreation and Resort Management prepares graduates to be entrepreneurs, managers, planners, and program supervisors in the commercial recreation, travel tourism, and resort management career areas. The goals are to assist students to acquire knowledge, skills, practical experience, and job placement in leisure and travel related businesses.

Students learn about the travel and tourism system, economic and social impacts of tourism, resort development and marketing, tourist motivations, special events management, theme parks, transportation used by travelers, ecotourism, incentive travel, tour company operations and sales, spas, conference and meeting planning, destination marketing, and cultural tourism.

The Concentration in Hotel Management prepares students to manage and operate hotels, motels, and other lodging business. Major management functions include various aspects of accounting and cost controls, sales and marketing, property management, and use of hospitality management information systems. Emphasis is placed on problem solving situations and case studies to support the didactic approach to instruction.

The Concentration in Restaurant and Institutional Foodservice Management prepares students for management positions in various branches of the food service industry. The goal is to develop restaurant and institutional foodservice managers who combine knowledge and skills in business, food production, and services in the foodservice industry.

Completion of the core and concentration courses provides students with theoretical knowledge for successful attainment of top-level management positions in the professions of hotel management, restaurant and institutional foodservice management, or commercial recreation and resort management. The curriculum combines strengths in management with technical skills and internship opportunities in each area.

It is not only right but over due! I’m talking of the services we pay for. such as consumer goods, utilities, and luxury items. Any Salesperson who ignores me, or otherwise makes me feel

it is a privilege for them to acknowledge me gets the “Avante” treatment.

This consists of me asking to see the most expensive, hard to reach items, if clothing, I take

as many items as I can into the change room, remove them from the hangers and leave them askew.

I then choose items that would make any Salesperson’s day up to the till. I pull out my wallet

as if to pay, then state; “You know, I sold many items in my time.I never made any customer

wait, I treated them with the respect due to someone who’s business directly affected my income. But, you have treated me as though you don’t need my business, so therefore, I will get these items next door.” I’m not THAT old, but it seems the staff in most stores are simply putting in time.

Then there are the Service Providers our tax dollars pay exorbant wages to. They are many and varied, and feel invincible behind a Union, or the old “Policy” defense. Haven’t you phoned an

office whether it be a Commercial or Government endeavor, and could actually sense the tone of voice of someone who has decided they own the air they occupy? And if you ask too many questions, well, some can get down right persnickety.I always call them back three or four times

or if I wasn’t treated too badly, will ask “Whats the matter friend”? You obviously are upset

or you wouldn’t be so rude to a stranger your hired to help right? Can I help in any way?”

The worst example, (or in the top ten), was trying to help a friend who went through some very rough times over a short period. He got divorced after catching his wife cheating on him. He also deals with severe chronic pain, and although his Dr.’s have him classified as unable to work, he does for short periods as he recieves a pittance from the Government. After his split with his wife he lived in a motel room for a year with his two kids and dog. Then he lost his oldest and youngest Sons to drug overdoses within 14 months.

Suffice to say, he was in need of help. I was amazed that he was able to work long enough for unemployment Benefits, but he did. After a year this ended, but he went to a non-government agency several months before to request accessing a program whereby he would continue to receive benefits for 6 months while starting a business. He feels this is the ONLY way he will

House fires, burglaries, and damaging storms can occur at any time, and you could lose everything you own if you don’t have insurance. Here’s how to get low cost homeowners insurance coverage in West Virgina with a reliable company.

What does homeowners insurance cover?

A homeowners policy actually gives you four different types of coverage:

1. It pays to rebuild or repair your home after it’s been destroyed by or damaged.

2. It pays to replace your personal property such as furniture, clothing, appliances, and electronics.

3. It pays for court-awarded damages and your legal fees when someone hurts himself on your property and wins a lawsuit against you.

4. It pays for your hotel, motel, and restaurant bills when your house is being repaired and you need temporary living quarters.

How much Homeowners insurance do I need?

You should have enough coverage to rebuild your home if it’s destroyed. To find out how much this would be, ask a local builder or Realtor what the building cost per square foot is in your area, then multiply that figure by your home’s square footage.

How much personal property coverage do I need?

To find out how much personal property coverage you need, take an inventory of all your possessions. The total value of your possessions is the amount of coverage you should have.

Some expensive items like jewelry, works of art, and certain types of collections may not be fully covered. Check your policy to see how much coverage you have, then purchase additional coverage if you need it.

Does homeowners insurance protect me from flood damage?

Standard polices do not provide coverage for floods. If you live in a flood zone you can purchase federal flood insurance through your insurer.

How can I get low cost homeowners insurance coverage in West Virginia?

The easiest way to get low cost homeowners insurance in West Virginia is to go to an insurance comparison website where you can get rate quotes from different companies in one place.

Visit http://www.LowerRateQuotes.com/homeowners-insurance.html or click on the following link to get West Virginia homeowners insurance quotes from top-rated companies and see how much you can save.
This may make him sound rather rude, but he isn’t rude, he’s autistic. Communication is one of the major challenges of autism. So, when Cam began relating to cartoon network, we were all thrilled that he was connecting with something, anything. And it made him laugh, which made us all happy.

I used to watch it with him and some of the shows were quite clever and funny and I was surprised that Cam understood some of the more subtle jokes and satire. Pokeman is his favorite. He’s fourteen now and still carries his stuffed Pikachu when he travels with his family. Our Beagle, George, loves the toy as well and makes a game of trying to take Pikachu to his basket. Cam’s two older brothers used to play with Pokeman cards and I think the show built a bridge between them and Cam. For this reason alone, I’m happy there is Cartoon Network.

Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends’ is one of my favorites. I watched a lot of CN when I took care of the kids during cold and flu seasons. The program is at times funny and quite clever. The title says it all when it comes to a rather thin plot, but it holds my attention and the kids like it.

Johnny Bravo’ is another one I remember watching often. It’s lighthearted and sort of silly, and I enjoy Johnny’s Elvis’ speech pattern and the situations he finds himself in.

Looney Tunes’ has been a favorite of all three of our generations. Grandpa’ gets a lot of Taz related stuff every Christmas since he’s been a Taz fan for decades. It gives the generations something in common and really comes in handy when were stuck together in a motel room during rainy vacations. Then of course there’s the classical music they learn, like their play on “The Marriage of Figaro” Wagner’s “Kill The Wabbit.” I don’t think I’ve ever watched those two cartoons without laughing.

Other old time favorites, such as Yogi Bear’, Batman’, Scooby Doo’ and even the Smurfs’ are still around on Cartoon Network if the adults miss their childhood favorites.

Our granddaughter used to love “The Powerpuff Girls” but she’s nine years old now and says she’s outgrown them.’ Her words, not mine.

I remember when cartoons were only on TV on Saturday mornings until around noon. Now cartoons of all kinds, old and new, are available 24/7. We never allowed the kids to watch them more than an hour or two a day, so it’s up to the grownups to regulate the amount of TV the kids watch as well as the program content, but it really helps to know Cartoon Network is there, especially during cold a flu season!

Our daughter and her family had to move from our hometown in Michigan to Tennessee in order to find jobs, and I don’t see the kids very often now. So I guess I have a bit of nostalgia for the days when my four little grandkids and I would nuke one of our hundreds of packages of Boy Scout Popcorn and watch Cartoon Network together.

We all know that ClickBank is one tool for easy success. We all are searching for success, specifically for online marketers, we are looking for success in our ClickBank accounts. We have the power (ClickBank), but do we know how to fully tap that power’s potential? Thousands of people with ClickBank accounts really do not know what to do with them. Some are ignorant, and some have done trying because they see no immediate results. This article will help you unravel some of those secrets in CB inner circle – to tap the power, and to pocket in the money.

Online marketing alone is a tough business, and so is affiliate marketing. It is easy to get in, but it requires guts and willpower to survive. Since you run your own online business, it relies on your own hands if you can turn a profit or not. If you are starting your own business, an online market is the way to do it since it has a low startup cost. A domain name and hosting can cost for under $ 100.00 a year.

ClickBank super affiliates, or the marketers who earn so much money online try to conceal their secrets – they actually don’t want you to know that there is such a secret. The truth is, there is so much in online marketing, affiliate marketing, that everyone needs to know, but no one spills the beans.

CB Inner Circle Review

CB inner circle reveals not just these truths to open the paths of success,

but also give you strategies on how to earn money. One of the major secrets revealed by CB inner circle is traffic. You get no sales, no page views without any traffic. This is one often forgotten secret – but the inner circle blurts it out in their ebooks.

Another secret is Education – CB inner circle, and ClickBank marketing, heck, even online marketing is not easy if you don’t equip yourself with learning and fundamental information.

ClickBank inner circle – joint venture marketing

Many people have tried their luck with the several money making schemes made available online. While many have prospered from the work-from-home online scams, most find themselves conned, and eventually frustrated, thus giving up to this business venture. CB inner circle answers the call of the weary – as this program propagates the concept of ClickBank marketing which are joint venture business relationships.

ClickBank marketing employs joint business ventures – or one person becoming sort of a liaison for another company, marketing their product, selling them efficiently. Joint ventures online happen, when a company employs a website, or a website administrator to sell their product or service. The website earns money through commissions and fees paid for by the affiliate market.

The great thing about this is that this done entirely online, with no risks of travel and a hectic work schedule. With CB inner circle, your marketing skills are enhanced as you learn better strategies in online marketing and dealing with affiliate partners.

CB inner circle is probably the best resource to aid you in setting up a successful joint business online. As ClickBank already possesses a huge bank of partner products to promote, all they need is you to promote the product. The easiest and practically the best way to choose which products to promote is to relate it to your interests. Not only will it introduce you to a market you enjoy, but selling the product will be a whole lot easier as you already have background knowledge of the product. CB Inner Circle offers more strategies to sell the product more efficiently.

The Thistle Hotel, Glasgow

“The Way It Should Be,” is the motto of the Thistle Hotel chain. Does the Glasgow city centre Thistle live up to that motto?

Situated in Cambridge Street, just behind Sauchiehall Street, one of the busiest shopping thoroughfares in Europe, the Thistle is ideally situated for visitors to Glasgow. It is only minutes from the shops, the theatres, the cinema and the stations. It gets praise for having it’s own large, dedicated car park, in a city where parking is increasingly a problem. Cars can be left for an overnight stay for around 5.

The building itself is nothing much to look at from the outside (although it’s illuminated “Thistle” sign might guide you home across the city after dark) being just another tower block, but the foyer is elegant and welcoming. A closer look reveals a grubbiness behind the gleaming facade, but this is, after all, a working city centre hotel. Renovations ARE being carried out and the hotel seems to be getting re-furbished from the top down.

Our room on the fifth floor was pristine. It had a brand new feel to it. The sheets and shower curtain looked like they just been unpacked. The bathroom met that hotel ideal in looking like no one had ever been in it before you! The furnishings were plush and the king-sized bed was incredibly comfortable.

The room was bigger than many city centre hotel rooms. It had all the facilities you might expect, like tea making, an ironing board, hair dryer and even a plasma TV on the wall. There is pay as you go wireless internet connection. One thing lacking was a full length mirror, which could easily have been fitted on the back of one of the wardrobe doors. The wardrobes space was plentiful.

As an added security feature, which you don’t always get, each floor was individually security locked meaning only staff and residents could access it. This means any opportunistic thief would have to get past reception and two sets of locked doors (and a hidden safe if you chose to use it) to get to your valuables!

The hotel leisure complex is nothing fancy, but more expensive hotels in Glasgow don’t have as much! It has a pool, hot tub, beauty treatments gym and sauna. Unfortunately they never seem to all be operational at once, but the club opens early and shuts late.

Business meetings and seminars are well catered for in the Thistle Hotel. In fact the Thistle’s Grand Ballroom is the largest such space of any hotel in Scotland, seating fifteen hundred people, theatre style.

The Thistle has it’s own, in house coffee shop, Co-Motion and the Cabin Bar where you can relax with a drink. The Anlann Restaurant offers a delicious “fusion” of locally sourced Scottish products with a European menu.

The Thistle has twenty four hour room service and the concierge service is incredibly helpful. They will hold bags for you while you go shopping, even after you have checked out – for free! They will also suggest jogging routes around the city and tell you about the shows on offer at nearby theatres or even how to get to your preferred place of worship.

Check out times are incredibly civilised. In an industry that usually can’t wait to replace one paying guest with an other, the Thistle let’s you check out at noon and breakfast is served until eleven.

So, is the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow living up to the corporate motto? Is it “The way it should be”?

For a reasonably priced city centre hotel – yeah, I’d say so!

You can travel quickly:

You can travel comfortably:

You can travel cheaply.

PICK ANY TWO!’

(Sign outside travel agency)

Whether you live in Europe or you are just visiting, an inexpensive way to “see around” is to sign up for a coach tour. The idea of being carted around from city to city, cooped up with a horde of coach potatoes’ does not usually make me go into raptures. However, it is not too horrendous an experience if the tour chosen is one with a definite destination, where you stay for a few days. Those sad if today is Friday, this must be Salzburg cattle-droves are not the way to go!

Excursions from the destination are often included in the price. However, what many people fail to realise is that they are not compulsory! So, if trailing gang-handed around cathedrals and castles with 49 other people is not to your taste, there is nothing to stop you from jumping ship’ and doing your own thing. Do not ask your guide or courier for recommendations, though. S/he will probably suggest that you join the excursion! Go, instead, to the local Tourist Information Office, and enquire there.

Take plenty to read on the journey, because there is unlikely to be much to see on the way. It is just like flying, only slower! One European motorway is pretty well like any other, as are refreshment stops, usually at motorway service areas. If an overnight stop en route is necessary on a longer journey, the kind of hotel chosen will usually just be satisfactory, and will hardly be the subject of many postcards home.

However, an overnight stop en route, even in a cheap, anonymous French motel, is a far better proposition than the overnight trip which some of the cheaper tours offer. A friend once told me about her nightmare trip to Italy.

I was sitting next to this fat old man, who took up three quarters of the seat, stank of cheap after-shave and stale tobacco, and snored and drooled all night’ she told me Next year’ she added I’m going to leave him at home!’

You might ask how the tour companies can offer holidays at such a low price, and you may well get part of the answer at meal-times at the destination hotel. This is the one of the down-sides … quite often, they will tell you that dinner will be served at 7 p.m. prompt and it is not negotiable. The meal will most probably be a set menu, and, while not too bad, is often rather ordinary, with portions too small for most of us.

That is because the price will have
